Background
- Biographical / historical:
Charles William "Bill" Young was born on December 16, 1930 and died on October 18, 2013. Bill Young served as a Florida Senator from 1960-1970 and in the United States House of Representatives from 1971-2013. Although a high school dropout, Bill Young was able to climb the political ladder in Florida, becoming one of the longest serving Republican members of congress. Young served on the Committee of Appropriations and on the subcommittee for Defense, Military Construction, Veterans affairs, and Related Agencies. Bill Young was dedicated to the Tampa Bay and St. Petersburg area, supporting legislation for infrastructure and environmental protection. Young married in 1949 to Marian Ford; together they had three children: Terry, Pamela, and Kimber. Young divorced Marian in 1985 and married Beverly Angello in the same year. Beverly had a child from a previous marriage, Robert; however, Bill adopted him early on in their marriage. Bill and Beverly had two more children during the course of their marriage, Billy and Patrick.

The C.W. "Bill" Young Papers are arranged by four series. Series 1: Working Papers consists of, appropriation files, oil drilling, defense bills, and environmental reports. Series 2: News Articles and Personal Materials consists of news clippings concerning Bill Young and Florida Legislation, scrapbooks, and schedule books. Series 3: Photographs consists of photographs of political leaders, campaigns, and Bill Young with constituents. This series also contains CD and USB drives with photographs. Series 4: Audio Visual consists of audio in the format of reel, cassette, VHS, and DVD.
