The collection contains biographical information, childhood ephemera, personal and professional correspondence, awards and award nominations, diary pages, clippings, personal scripts and books, speeches, photographs, 1 large printed photograph, 1 large artistic sketch, 1 music box, 1 article of clothing, 1 audiobook on tape, 4 audio cassettes, 21 DVDs, 2 CDs, and 6 videotapes. Most items relate directly to Polly Holliday, though some items are tied to various members of the Holliday family, including clippings, photographs, documents, a uniform from her mother Velma Holliday, and diary pages from Polly's grandmother Bama Cain.

Biographical / historical:

Polly Holliday was born in Jasper, AL on July 2, 1937 and attended the Alabama State College for Women, now the University of Montevallo, from 1955-1959, graduating with a degree in piano and picking up experience with the school theater program. In 1960, Holliday graduated with a Master's in Music Education from Florida State University and proceeded to teach music in Sarasota, FL public schools. It was in Sarasota that she began her acting career, joining the Asolo Theater Company and appearing in a variety of classic and contemporary works over ten years. Holliday continued her career in New York, landing a number of roles on and off Broadway, as well as supporting roles in films such as All the President's Men (1976). Later that year, she was cast in the TV sitcom Alice. Holliday was celebrated for her performance as the sassy southern diner waitress Flo Castleberry, earning her two Golden Globes and multiple Emmy nominations over the course of the show and its spinoff series Flo. Holliday returned to Broadway and regional theater earning critical acclaim, including a Tony nomination for her performance in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" (1990).
